Two Powerful Tips to Declutter Your Life and Your Mind

This blog post is inspired by the Episode Five of the Awaken with Maria Serbus podcast.

As our lives get busier and more complex, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the clutter that accumulates in both our physical and mental spaces. However, by taking small steps to declutter our surroundings and clear our minds, we can regain a sense of control and stay organized even in the midst of chaos. In this article, we'll share two tips for decluttering your space and mind, so you can stay focused, productive, and stress-free.

Tip #1: Declutter your space by focusing on just one thing

Physical clutter can be a major source of stress, whether it's piles of papers on your desk or a closet full of clothes you never wear. To begin decluttering your space, start with one small area that's causing you frustration. For example, maybe it's your nightstand, your office desk, or even your car. Whatever it is, take a few minutes to clear out the clutter and organize the items that remain. You'll be surprised at how much of a difference this can make in your mental state.

An example of this from my own life: I accumulated a number of notebooks, which caused me to feel disorganized and scattered. My business coach suggested that I get rid of some of them and commit to using just one planner. I also started using a Rocketbook, which is a reusable notebook that can be linked to the Rocketbook app app, making it easy to organize and store notes digitally. These simple changes have helped me feel more focused and productive by simply clearing out a few notebooks.

Tip #2: Declutter your brain: The Brain Dump

If you find that your mind is constantly racing with thoughts and worries, it's time to do a "brain dump." This is a simple but powerful exercise that involves writing down all of the thoughts that are swirling around in your head. It can be done in a notebook, on your phone, or even by talking to a trusted friend or family member.

The goal of a brain dump is to get everything out of your head and onto paper, so you can start to make sense of it all.

Don't worry about organizing your thoughts or making them coherent – just write down whatever comes to mind. You'll be surprised at how therapeutic this can be, and how much clarity it can bring to your thinking.

After your brain dump, take a few minutes to ground and center yourself. This could be as simple as taking a few deep breaths, going for a walk, or stretching. The goal is to clear your mind of all the clutter and when you come back to your brain dump list, you can allow yourself to focus on what's important.

In conclusion, decluttering your space and mind is a simple but powerful way to stay organized, focused, and stress-free. By taking one small step at a time and committing to a regular brain dump, you can create a more peaceful and productive life for yourself. So take a deep breath, grab a pen and paper, and get started!
